Witchcraft History
Witchcraft and magic spells have existed and endured since
the dawn of time. For many centuries, the champions and
masters of the craft have helped to carry forward this art and tradition.
Throughout the history, there have been great triumphs and
great suffering, and witchcraft and magic are currently
experiencing the time of awakening, resurgence and
enlightenment. The origin of witchcraft predates
most of well known religions on this earth, and it dates
back 40,000 years to Paleolithic period.
In early Modern Europe, the witchcraft came to be seen
as the great diabolical conspiracy against Christianity.
Some of the paintings found in archeological discoveries show a
man with a head of stag, and another one where a pregnant woman
is standing in a circle along with eleven other people.
Wiccan view and belief of God and Goddess as the supreme
creative force predates several thousand years before
Christianity. In the ancient times, wise people were
those who were in tune with the natural forces, and followed
the path of nature, and witchcraft was known as the craft of
the wise.

These wise people had the knowledge of medicines and herbs,
could counsel people and were considered Shamanic healers and
leaders in the community. It has been believed that the
roots of magic came from Celts, descendents of Into-Europeans,
living between 700 BC and 100 AD. Celts were highly
spiritual people, worshipped god and goddess, and also believed
in reincarnation. These practices and many other
nature-based beliefs of Celts and other groups were
collectively known as witchcraft.
Prior to fourteenth century, the term
witchcraft meant the collection of practices and beliefs
including healing through mixing ointments, spells, forecasting
the future, dabbling in the supernatural and engaging in
clairvoyance. After the discovery of North America when
Europeans started migrating to this new land, some of the
colonial settlers started practicing witchcraft. Prior to
this migration, witchcraft was forbidden in North American
colonies and was branded as demon-worship. The early
records of witchcraft can be traced back to early days of
humankind when it was seen as the magical phenomenon which
ensured protection from enemies, good luck, and protection
against diseases.
After 1000 AD, the witches and witchcraft came under
the wrath of Christianity, priests and many other beliefs of
the society, and was considered as anti-Christian and a
heresy. Since the ancient times, the well-known types of
magic are denoted by colors. Some people believe that the
origin of witches dates back thousands of years when goddess
was worshipped. In the archeological discoveries, people
have found paintings showing a man with the head of a stag, and
another painting where a pregnant woman standing in the circle
with eleven other people which is a proof that the practice of
witchcraft was prevalent even in the Paleolithic period.
